Well, there's gratitude for you

It's a great example of the use of FM synthesis, with some well thought out presets. Very simple but very effective. It's got a very low DSP footprint too.
The sound example is a great little bit of 80's FM synthy-poppiness - I'll post some snippets and other sound examples on ModularCorner as soon as I get the chance.

FYI the original YM2151 was a chip used in the cheaper Yamaha DX series, several arcade games and the Korg DS-8.

Hey ! I'm not complaining, it's just that the "example" is almost three times bigger than the actual file. This seems to me to defeat the purpose of an example.

And how sweet the sound when you do download.

Is this the best patch ever for ModV2 - could be.

It's low on DSP, neat and simple in design and big on sound. It does fantastic bass, distorted leads, portamento lead, FM lead, square lead. It's a great harp, slap bass, pure square, sequencer blip, bell ring and distorted metallic hit.

It's like some of the early monophonic analog blip machines (like the Pro One and MonoPoly), a bit like a DX7, can replicate anything off the ZS404, and could do a good 303 imitation. Arikama's modest post doesn't do this justice !

It's an FM device - which I normally don't like - but it is really is superior. I've downloaded just about every ModV2 patch there is (and then deleted about 75 per cent), but this will be staying in the number one slot.

Am I raving? Yep, but this really is a top patch. And with 47 presets.

Arikama, my sincere compliments to you. Please post another of your creations !

thanks,
Spirit

I've posted a couple of pages on Modular corner describing the patch, with a short introduction to FM synthesis.

The 'routing' page is an attempt to describe how to implement all the different algorithms which Arikama illustrated in the picture he posted here. I've also included some presets which implement each of those algorithms. Not great presets in themselves, but starting points for your own presets.

Let me know if you spot any mistakes or if there's anything that needs adding or clarifying.

Ben

this is a great patch with a very nice assortment of presets. it is so simply layed out and straightfoward, but still suprisingly flexible (thanks to the virtues of fm synthesis and cws fm module).

no need for me to buy no stinkin fm synth, i've got the ym2151+!

the additional presets don't work for me

i import them and double click and everything seems to change, but i get no sound and the midi channel is set to something like 324963, which won't change.

i imagine this is because you created the patches in os3.

thank you for the great contribution arikama.

best.
