Cool its a MIDI LFO, You can make it control anything that can be midi controlled!

I've spent 2 nights trying to get this to work, but no luck.

If I hook it up to the Midi monitor, all I can see coming out are any midi signals that it receives at the Midi IN. Doesn't seem to pass any CC's out at all. Tried pretty much every knob.

Any clues? I'd love to get this working - I've been asking for a Midi LFO for ages.

1. make sure the green knobs are moving.
2. right click on a green knob or do what you need to do if you have a mac.
3. click on the controller window.
4. double click on the controller you want to assign the knob to.

5. on another instrument assign a knob to the same controller.

try setting the knobs on the synth manually (put it on a different midi channel or disconnect it) otherwise it will try to "helpfully" st the cc for that knob to whatever it sees from the lfo.

it did work when i tried it. its cool

how about making the LFOs syncable to MIDI clock? you can use the midi clock and retrigerable from note-on from old scope if you dont have one in 3 (which i dont)

Ah, cool ! Thanks. I thought that the CC# would be set by the setting of the green knob, not by the cc value of the green knob itself.

Anyway, this is a top device, and one that I've been dreaming of and hassling for for ages. So many useful applications, and to have three independent LFO's in one is even more powerful.

And of course, you can use one FOAM to control another, so you can, for example, set the output of the first to alter the Frequency of one synth, and then use another FOAM to control the Amplitude of the first FOAM, so you can have a Filter modulation that starts with a little twitch back and forth and grows to a full sweep from Min to Max. Etc, etc, etc.

Another fun thing to do is to set the LFO with a small amplitude to control some value like Filter Frequency, then move the dial on the same knob on the synth by hand at the same time. You'll see the two movements sort of 'fight' against each other and get all sorts of weird randomness going on.

I didn't actually check the DSP usage, but I doubt it'll be too great.

I would gladly pay for a commercial version of this device. Here's some more ideas that I'd like to see in a future version:

LFO's Frequency syncable to MIDI, (or at least the ability to set speeds as division of BPM.)

Global disable of all LFO's (Panic button)

Preset dialogues (I know it hardly needs it, so could live without that.)

Knob values visible in test box under the dials, and values settable in by hand (It's so much easier to be able to type the number you want in than try and tweak this with the mouse.)

LFO triggering by Midi Note On - maybe with a fallback time to the offset value so it doesn't just die immediately.

A Dropdown list of LFO shapes - I hate having to guess these with the mouse (but maybe dropdowns are still not available in Scope?)

I'm sure others can come up with other extensions for this excellent device. None of the above suggestions are meant as a criticism - I really like this device and the simplicity of its execution - but now I have the device I've been hankering after for so long, I can see how much further you could take this.

Anyway, many thanks for FOAM - I'm having great fun with it.

PS Another idea woud be for a similar device, but with an EG rather than LFO's. I could see this being very useful too.

great device
I've used it to control the cut off frequency on the ez synth,one problem occured, some notes were hanging - seemed quite random. I guess it could be because I had been workin' several hours ( time flies when you're enjoying yourself right ) and my sequencer ( Nuendo ) crashed soon after I started toying with FOAM ... dunno - I'll check it again tomorrow, goin' to sleep for tonight

did some more toying with this device, the thing I mentioned in my earlier post about notes hanging was caused by my sequencer being tired

The problem with making an envelope triggered by midi is. because there is a knob that has to be turned to assign a midi cc# to that means in scope, that there is a "sync to async" conversion happening. async is for control signals and is not as accurate as sync. it means that fast attacks on the envelope will not always be right on time.

for slow fades and stuff though it would be fine.

this is waayy cool. i love applying this to zarg synths!
